How to Create Thumbnail Images for AutoCAD Content

If you are uploading AutoCAD content to UNIFI and not getting thumbnail images, here are some steps to get those showing up in UNIFI.

You'll see in the photo below that a generic image is appearing for .dwg files.

The reason why you see these generic thumbnails is that UNIFI uses Windows thumbnails for non-Revit content. To prevent this, you will want to ensure you can see a thumbnail image in Windows when you upload to UNIFI.

To do this, you'll first want to download these files. Simply hold down CTRL as you select all of the files, then right-click and select Download.

Next, select the download location and then click Download.

Then go to that file location and search *.dwg to see only the dwg files.

Next, set the View to Extra large icons.

If you still don't see your .dwg thumbnail previews you may need to:

  • Open and save the file in AutoCAD for the preview to show
  • Configure your thumbnail preview settings for AutoCAD
  • Ensure that the content you are uploading is on your computer and not a network drive

Once you see your .dwg thumbnail previews, drag and drop them to the Upload Content section in UNIFI, select the appropriate libraries and tags, and then upload.
